Separate PCB fabrication from PCBA
PCB fabrication produces the bare board. PCBA includes component sourcing or preparation, SMT placement, through-hole assembly if needed, soldering, inspection, and testing. A supplier may be strong in one area and limited in another.

Board design affects assembly risk
Pad design, component pitch, board finish, panelization, thermal mass, and inspection access all affect assembly yield and rework difficulty. These issues should be checked before releasing files.

Supplier communication
